A tragic explosion which occurred at a quarry site in Anto Aboso, in the Shama district of the Western Region has caused the unfortunate deaths of some four people, leaving several others missing and many more displaced.
The cause, as well as the extent of damage of the explosion which was said to have happened around 11:00pm on Saturday, September 9, is yet to be ascertained.
“We’re yet to ascertain the extent of damage, though I have been told we’ve lost some lives.” Member of Parliament for Shama, Samuel Ericsson Abaka said.
The quarry site is operated by Chinese expatriates in the community, and reports suggest not only the site, but surrounding communities were also affected by the explosion.
Meanwhile, NADMO officials as well as fire service personnel are still working to find the missing persons as well as unravel the actual cause of the incident.
