AdubianewsThe 2025 African Political Parties Summit has ended in Accra with the adoption of the Accra Declaration, a historic commitment by political parties across the continent to deepen collaboration and strengthen governance.
The closing ceremony, held on Thursday, August 14, was presided over by Ghana’s Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah. The summit, which opened on August 12, was launched by Vice President Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang on behalf of President John Mahama under the theme “From Politics to Prosperity: Strengthening Inter-party Collaboration for Africa’s Development and Economic Transformation.”
Over three days, African political leaders deliberated on pressing governance issues and explored strategies to advance democracy and development.
The gathering also saw the signing of key MoUs: one between the Africa Governance Centre and the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICCAP), and another between the Africa Governance Centre and the Permanent Conference of Political Parties of Latin America and the Caribbean (COPPPAL).
In his closing address, Mr. Debrah urged leaders to place women and young people at the center of Africa’s political agenda. “We must be proactive in pushing the interests of women and the youth in politics,” he emphasised.
The declaration adopted at the summit seeks to enhance inter-party cooperation, harness technology for political engagement, and expand opportunities for political participation across Africa.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, and a Special Envoy of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Also present were H.E. Carlos Manuel Vila Nova, President of São Tomé and Príncipe; Ghana’s Vice President, H.E. Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang; and Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister, H.E. Adem Farah.
