Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa Reassures Citizens Overseas

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has assured Ghanaians that the government remains fully committed to safeguarding its citizens abroad, particularly during periods of heightened risk.

His remarks come amid rising tensions in the Middle East, where escalating military exchanges have sparked global concern over regional stability.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, March 3, Mr Ablakwa declared that “no Ghanaian would be abandoned in harm’s way,” reaffirming the administration’s commitment to the welfare of nationals living outside the country.

Rising Tensions in the Middle East

The reassurance follows escalating hostilities involving:

  • Israel

  • Iran

  • United States

Recent coordinated strikes and counter-threats have intensified fears of a broader regional confrontation. Analysts warn that the situation poses significant risks to diplomatic missions, foreign nationals, and international shipping routes operating in the region.

Ghana’s diplomatic missions have consequently reinforced monitoring and protective measures to ensure the safety of citizens.

Support for Black Queens in the UAE

Mr Ablakwa specifically commended staff at Ghana’s embassy in the United Arab Emirates for their swift response in assisting the Black Queens and other nationals affected by flight cancellations.

The Black Queens delegation currently in the region comprises 25 players and 16 officials.

“I commend our embassy personnel in the UAE for their patriotism, courage, compassion, and professionalism as they continue to provide consular support and ensure the safety of the Black Queens,” he stated.

Government’s Firm Pledge

Concluding his statement, Mr Ablakwa reaffirmed Ghana’s longstanding national pledge:

“For God and Country.”

His assurance comes as governments worldwide closely monitor developments in the Middle East, with contingency plans being activated to protect citizens abroad if tensions escalate further.
