Former manager of the late highlife icon Daddy Lumba, popularly known as Roman Father, has disclosed that the celebrated musician charged as much as GH₵500,000 for a 30-minute performance at the peak of his career.

Speaking in an interview, Roman Father revealed that despite the enormous value Daddy Lumba brought to the Ghanaian music industry and the premium fees he commanded for performances, the late musician is now being subjected to what he described as disgraceful treatment.

According to him, Daddy Lumba’s talent, influence, and unmatched catalogue of hit songs placed him among the most sought-after performers in the country, allowing him to charge fees that reflected his legendary status.

“Daddy Lumba used to charge GH₵500,000 for just 30 minutes on stage,” Roman Father stated, emphasising that such figures were a testament to the musician’s dominance and relevance in the industry at the time.

He expressed disappointment over what he sees as attempts to undermine or diminish the legacy of the late highlife star, despite the immense financial success and cultural impact he achieved during his lifetime.

Roman Father questioned why an artiste who generated such value, commanded respect from event organisers, and contributed significantly to Ghana’s music heritage should now be treated with disrespect following his passing.

Daddy Lumba, widely regarded as one of Ghana’s greatest musicians of all time, left behind an extensive body of work that continues to influence generations of artistes and music lovers across the country and beyond.
