Ahafo Ano Southwest MP Elvis Osei Mensah-Dapaah pledges to renovate Mankranso SHS science lab after NSMQ success

The Member of Parliament for Ahafo Ano Southwest, Elvis Osei Mensah-Dapaah, has pledged to renovate the science laboratory of Mankranso Senior High School following the school’s remarkable performance in the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

Speaking to JoyNews during his visit to the University of Cape Coast, where Mankranso SHS competed in the semifinals against Mfantsipim School and Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS), the MP praised the team’s determination despite limited facilities.

According to Mr. Mensah-Dapaah, the school’s achievement, despite infrastructural challenges, has inspired him to accelerate development projects in the area. “I’ve been to the school myself. They have the structure for a science laboratory, but things are not well. So what I’m trying to do now is to start with the lab,” he said.

He further revealed that he plans to continue projects initiated by his predecessor, including new dormitories and classrooms. The MP added that beyond government assistance, he is prepared to use personal funds to improve the school’s facilities.

“I won’t rely on government coffers alone,” he said. “There are certain aspects I’ll use my own money to support the school because they’ve given us a good name.”

Mankranso SHS, a Category C school in the Ahafo Ano Southwest District, has become one of the most inspiring stories of the 2025 NSMQ season. Their journey from under-resourced beginnings to competing at the national semifinal level has drawn nationwide admiration and renewed conversations about supporting less-endowed schools across Ghana.
