The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Afriyie Akoto, is still expanding the frontiers of his presidential ambition, despite calls from party hierarchy to halt such moves, Daily Mail GH can reveal.
The Agric Minister came under fire recently after he secretly met delegates in Kumasi in pursuit of his presidential ambitions, prompting concerns from the party. In spite of the concerns, especially after the NPP publicly cautioned against such moves, the camp of the Agric Minister is still holding secret meetings and their main target has been Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, reliable sources in the camp have told Daily Mail GH.
Daily Mail GH can confirm that agents of Dr. Akoto held one of such meetings last Friday when they secretly met some NPP delegates in Accra at a house in East Legon. The delegates, numbering about 100 were selected and transported from Ashanti Region, the NPP’s stronghold. The meeting, which was scheduled to start at 7:00 a.m. but started an hour later, was addressed by two allies of the Agric Minister with the objective; to advance the presidential ambition of Dr. Afriyie Akoto and also to denigrate Vice President Bawumia.
Sources told Daily Mail GH that the speakers include Nana Baffour, aka People’s Father and the Constituency Organiser of Bosomtwe. The main speakers embarked on a stunning mission of attacking Dr. Bawumia by launching scathing, tribal-laced attacks on the Vice President.
They told the NPP executives gathered how Dr. Bawumia cannot lead the NPP because he is from a minority tribe, whose total number of votes would be consumed by only two constituencies in the Ashanti Region. They continued their tirade against Dr. Bawumia by running series of despicable tribal commentaries against the Vice President.
Also, our sources revealed that they discredited the influence of Bawumia in the North, as well as his contributions to the management of the economy, saying decisions on the economy are taken by cabinet.
All efforts by Daily Mail GH to reach the camp of the agric minister for comment on the latest development have proven futile.
