Desert ManBlack Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren says his team must deliver their best performance yet as they prepare to face Mali in a must-win Group C encounter at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Ghana, still reeling from a 2-0 opening defeat to defending champions South Africa, are hoping to bounce back when they take on the Eagles today at the Stade Municipal de Berkane. The match is scheduled to kick off at 16:00 GMT.
Ahead of the pivotal fixture, Björkegren expressed optimism, highlighting the positives from the loss to South Africa.
“[Against South Africa] it wasn’t the result that we wanted, but at the same time, we played against a very good team. For big parts of the game, we were the better side,” he said.
“We had more shots, more shots on goal, more corners, and we hit the bar twice. They had one VAR penalty and scored, but overall, we did pretty well.”
The Swedish coach emphasized the importance of turning the page quickly.
“We just need to leave that game behind and move on, and make sure we put in an even better performance against Mali,” he added.
Ghana must secure all three points to stay in contention for a place in the knockout stage. Mali currently sit second in the group after edging Tanzania in their opening match.
