This paper has thus uncovered a document containing lists of prominent personalities whose planned attacks are scheduled for in the run-up to the December 7, 2020 election.
Ghana has been described as a ‘beacon of hope’ in Africa for its democratic laurels since it entered into multi-party democratic elections in 1992 and having held successful elections since then.
However, these elections have come along with their own effects, both positive and negative, including Election-related Violence.
The coming election is however seen as a ‘do or die affair’ as the incumbent government is prepared to retain power whilst the opposition political parties including the National Democratic Congress (NDC) working its way to recovering power from the NPP.
This has given way to different strategies being employed by all political parties to achieve results.
It is however worthy to not that ever since the unfortunate death of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfanteman, Hon. Ekow Hayford, the opposition NDC has gone on a rampage trying to create some fear and panic in the society even though various stakeholders have assured a serene election environment.
The upcoming election has already witnessed some level of attacks and killings which could continue even after the elections.
It could be recalled that the Abuakwa North Member of Parliament, Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu, was stabbed to death at his residence at Shiashie in Accra, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency treasurer in Takoradi, Mark Ofori was also killed, Some six persons believed to be sympathisers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Karaga constituency in the Northern Region have been severely ‘butchered’ after a misunderstanding ensued between them and supporters of the NDC.
Meanwhile, this paper has intercepted a document that listed names of different personalities from the ruling party, civil society, the media among others who would face attacks from unknown faces ahead of the elections to give an impression that would seem to confirm the NDC’s stance of an unsafe election.
The list has Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, MP and Social Commentator, Bishop Owusu Bempah, Pastor, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Minister and MP, Sammi Awuku, National Organizer of the NPP, Captain Koda, Office of the President, Hon. Cynthia Morrison, MP and Minister, Hon. Agyemang-Prempeh, NADMO Director Genera, Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, MP and Minister, Charles Bissue, Presidential Staffer and Frank Adongo, MP and Deputy Minister.
The rest include Nii Lante Bannerman. Chairman of the National Premix Fuel Committee, Jeff Konadu, Eastern Regional Executive of the NPP, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, MP, Gabby Asare Otchere Darko, Lawyer and Business Man and Asamoah Gyan, Footballer.
Speaking to some political analysts, they averred that the list if executed could spell doom for the coming election as it would mar the efforts made towards having a peaceful election.
They said, election-related violence has socio-cultural, political and economic consequences on nations if not managed well and that even though elections are not desired to end in conflicts and violence, it sometimes does and the ability to deal with it is very crucial to the stability of democracy in a nation.
