President Mahama has delivered a deeply emotional tribute to the eight individuals who lost their lives in a military helicopter crash, praising their patriotism, courage, and unwavering dedication to Ghana.
Speaking to the nation Thursday evening, Mahama described the incident as a “moment of shared heartbreak” and urged Ghanaians to honour the memory of the fallen through unity, reflection, and gratitude.
“These eight individuals dedicated their lives to Ghana’s progress. That their final moments were spent in service is a testament to their unwavering commitment,” Mahama said.
Among the victims were prominent political leaders like Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, whom Mahama described as “a brilliant and dedicated leader,” and Alhaji Dr. Murtala Mohammed, who he praised as “a passionate voice for his constituents and a champion for environmental stewardship.” The list also included Vice Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Sarpong, and NADMO’s Deputy DG, Samuel Aboagye, both remembered for their commitment to public service.
The president paid special tribute to the military crew onboard — Squadron Leader Peter Anala, Flying Officer Tsum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo — whom he called “dedicated members of our Air Force, embodying the best of their profession.”
Mahama spoke not only as a national leader but as someone who had shared close personal bonds with many of the deceased. “This tragedy represents a deep personal loss for me,” he admitted. “Our nation is grieving. Know that our entire country mourns with you.”
In closing, Mahama called on citizens to honour their legacy not only in words but in actions that foster national unity and service. “Let our words be of comfort, our actions be of kindness, and our unity be the tribute we offer to those whose lives have been lost,” he urged.
