The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has advised any political party that will have issues with the final results of the December 7 elections to go to court and peacefully seek redress to help protect Ghana’s peace.
According to him, there is no need for any politician or political party to resort to violence over the elections.
“I know that definitely the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections will, as usual, be fair and very peaceful but should any of the politicians have issues with the results, then they should take legal action,” he stated.
Otumfuo was speaking when Vice-President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, who is on a campaign tour of the Ashanti Region, paid him a visit at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Sunday to seek his blessings.
He reminded the various political parties that “Ghana is the only country that we as Ghanaians can proudly call as our home, therefore, we should not allow politics and elections to throw the country into turmoil.”
The Asantehene re-echoed the need for Ghanaians to collectively play leading roles to ensure that the upcoming elections would be peaceful to help accelerate national development.
“The elections should be peaceful because it is about what your political party can do to effectively develop the country and bring prosperity for the people and it should not lead to chaos and bloodshed, which is not necessary.
We don’t want a fight, we need the peace and unity of the country to be intact before, during and after the elections, and so the various political parties must work towards that straightforward goal in the supreme interest of the state,” he advised.
Otumfuo also cautioned the youth against allowing themselves to be used by unpatriotic politicians to cause violence and destruction in the country.
“I know the youth in the NPP, NDC and all the other political parties are committed to peace therefore they would not stoop low to allow themselves to be used as agents of violence,” the Asantehene pointed out.
The Vice-President was accompanied by Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, the Majority Leader; Simon Osei Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minister; Osei Assibey Antwi, Kumasi Mayor; Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B) and other NPP leaders.
Dr. Bawumia assured that the NPP would embark on a political campaign of ideas so that Ghanaians would be able to make an informed decision on December 7.
The Vice-President was also blessed by the Asantehemaa, Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III when he called on her at her residence.
