AdubianewsAfter a brief postponement, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has announced that the much-anticipated Energy Sector Levies (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1141) will now take effect on July 16, 2025.
The confirmation came through an official statement signed by Acting Commissioner-General Anthony Akwasi Sarpong, which referenced the GRA’s earlier notice dated June 13, 2025.
That initial notice revealed the government’s decision to suspend the rollout temporarily, an action taken jointly with the Ministries of Finance and Energy to monitor global energy trends and safeguard local fuel price stability.
According to the GRA, the decision to resume implementation followed a careful assessment of international market conditions, reinforcing government efforts to maintain economic stability.
With the revised date now set, the GRA has called on importers, fuel marketers, and customs officers to prepare for full compliance. It emphasized that from July 16, all customs declarations submitted via the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS) will automatically reflect the new levy rates under Act 1141.
“Following a thorough review of prevailing market indicators and in line with the government’s commitment to ensuring stable economic conditions,” the Authority noted, “implementation of the Energy Sector Levies (Amendment) Act, 2025, will now commence effective 16th July 2025.”
The Energy Sector Levies (Amendment) Act, 2025, introduces revised measures aimed at increasing revenue for energy infrastructure investment, repaying sector debt, and aligning with current global pricing structures. The GRA described the act as a “critical revenue measure” necessary for supporting Ghana’s long-term energy sustainability and economic growth.
The Authority also used the opportunity to encourage collaboration from industry players and the public, noting that the smooth enforcement of Act 1141 will contribute to macroeconomic stability and strengthen Ghana’s energy resilience.
