Prof. Stephen Kwaku Asare (otherwise known as Kweku Azar) says he was unable to concur with veteran columnist and essayist Elizabeth Ohene on her most recent position against Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
As per Kwaku Azar, an individual in Public Law and Justice for CDD-Ghana, it is legitimate and it is the protected obligation of CSOs, NGOs, the media and other state organizations to hold the legislature in line and to do so boisterously and more than once.
He clarified that during Ohene’s days as Editor of the Daily Graphic, she was marked by certain individuals from the overall population as a “divine proofreader”, however he, Kwaku Asare, at that point an understudy, along with different understudies, upheld her.
The individuals, he contended, “weren’t right at that point to address and assault her insight, intention and even ethics only on the grounds that she challenged request responsibility and straightforwardness from [the] government.
“My aunt [in reference to Ohene] was correct at that point to talk truth to control and is appallingly off-base presently to assault the individuals who are talking truth to control!!”
Prof Asare, posted Wednesday on his Facebook Timeline: “Individuals in power in Ghana like to threaten. Furthermore, with their overflowing “fans,” they prevail with regards to threatening many. Thusly, many fear saying something to [the] government since it will release its assault canines on them”.
He included: “Many fear addressing judges since they will hold it against them when they show up before them. Many fear addressing instructors since they will bomb us, and so forth. They have prevailing with regards to quieting a large portion of us!”.
On the matter of the Agyapa outrage, Kwaku Azar composed that the NGOs and CSOs are all in all correct to request that the mineral sovereignty salary ought to be utilized in a helpful, capable, responsible, economical and straightforward way.
“They are all in all correct to demand that the Auditor General ought to be permitted to accomplish his work. They are all in all correct to address why and how Ghana lost $200M as a result of PDS. They are on the whole correct to scrutinize the financial matters and administration of Agyapa. They are all in all correct to inquire as to why Korn Ferry is utilized as a talent scout in 2020 and what amount is paid to them”.
Prof Stephen Kwaku Asare focused on: “They are on the whole correct to ask what amount was paid to Agyapa’s exchange guides when the Attorney General office could accomplish [the] same work for nothing. They have posed such inquiries of the current government as well as of all past governments similar to their privilege [so] to do. The thought that consistent Court choices should end banter is strange to the individuals who love the law. Re Akoto, Ayine, France and so on were all consistent. Few concur with them!”
Elizabeth Ohene in her most recent article named “Every single knowing unbiased” scrutinized the powerlessness of the NGOs and CSOs in Ghana to take analysis.
She expressed that the CSOs were “as of now occupied with doing what they excel at, which is to call attention to what the administration is fouling up”.
At that point she charged: “Since that is their self-selected job, I wouldn’t want to remark however for the determined certainty that the CSOs seem to believe that any analysis coordinated at them implies one is against them.”
Ohene, who was a Minister of State included that she was unable to comprehend why it was alright for CSOs to call attention to what they accepted to not be right “but then, somebody bringing up what they may have gotten off-base should mean you don’t need them to exist”.
She further stated: “These gatherings have solid assessments and express them in vivid language. I like that. They guarantee to cherish Ghana undeniably more than any other person and certainly more than anyone in governmental issues. I have issues with that. They guarantee to be straightforward, persevering and powerful and they have answers to each issue. They are mixed up.”
Elizabeth Ohene proceeded: “They state they are not party political, and they are straightforwardly scornful towards those in legislative issues, particularly those in government. It is once in a while hard to recognize that they accept anybody separated from them serves Ghana or means well towards Ghana.
“They appear to work on the overall rule that administrations are degenerate and insufficient and NGOs and CSOs are spotless and compelling. For what it is worth, I oppose this idea.”
