Nearly a year after the broadcast of the documentary ‘Premix Cartel’, joynews investigative journalist Kwetey Narte returns to the landing beaches and discovers how the so called middle men are hijacking the product intended for poor fishers

Kwetey Nartey visited the Elmina touchdown seashore where he met very tired-looking fishermen talking to one another.

He said, as I got close to them, I overheard their conversation which was centred around the terrible provision of premix gasoline at the coast.

According to Meshach Basel, a fisherman at the scene, the scenario has been compounded through middlemen who are hoarding and promoting the fuel at greater prices. It has turn out to be a profitable exchange for persons who are now not even fishermen. he said angrily.

Mr Basel is not the only fisherman disturbed by the premix hoarding.

Another fisherman, Kwesi is also disturbed about how the premix cartels have monopolised the distribution of the fuel. He says his business is on the verge of fall down due to the higher price of the fuel.

Evidently, a year ago, JoyNews’ Kwetey Nartey was at the Elmina touchdown seashore to locate out about the premix cartel. The crew went returned to test what the state of affairs is. He met Ebo, one of the sellers, who has pitched camp at the same structure the place he caught him on digicam promoting premix at exorbitant prices to fisher folks. At ¢7.50, seven gallons of premix have to price a little over ¢50. But after interrogating the investigative journalist about the authenticity of their claims to do business with him, Ebo sold the seven gallons of premix fuel to them for GHC100

The case is extraordinary in Accra where the government has commenced digitising the distribution of premix like Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia promised.

Many fisher folks believe that these cards will reduce the hoarding if not stop it completely.
