AdubianewsResidents of Kwahu Obomeng in the Eastern Region subjected a man to public humiliation after he was allegedly caught stealing a bunch of plantain. The incident, which took place in the town’s busy streets, quickly drew a large crowd.
Eyewitnesses said the man was forced to carry the stolen plantain in a pan on his head while he was paraded through the township. The act was meant to expose him to the community as a warning against theft.
Adding to the humiliation, another resident reportedly followed closely with a megaphone, announcing the man’s alleged crime to bystanders. Videos of the incident show onlookers laughing and jeering as the man walked reluctantly with the load.
The public shaming sparked mixed reactions among residents. While some argued it was a fitting punishment to deter others from stealing, others criticized the approach, insisting that the matter should have been reported to the police instead of handled publicly.
This incident adds to growing concerns over mob justice in Ghana, where communities sometimes take the law into their own hands. Authorities are yet to comment on whether the case will be formally investigated by law enforcement.
