AdubianewsPresident John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening teacher education in Ghana by announcing the official absorption of the Savannah College of Education in Daboya into the public education system.
During his “Thank You” tour of the region, Mahama explained that this move is part of a broader effort to enhance teacher training and expand access to quality education in underserved areas.
He revealed that the Savannah College of Education, originally a private-community initiative, will now operate as a fully public teacher training institution.
“To support teacher development, I’m pleased to announce that the Savannah College of Education in Daboya has now been officially absorbed as a public teacher training institution,” Mahama said.
The President further disclosed that he has instructed the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to expedite the recruitment of academic and administrative staff. He also directed them to prioritize infrastructure development at the college to ensure it meets public standards.
Additionally, Mahama confirmed that construction work will resume on the abandoned College of Education project at Doli near Bole. The initiative began during his previous administration but came to a halt after a change in government.
“Work on the abandoned college of education at Doli will resume this year,” he assured, reigniting hope for expanded teacher training opportunities in the region.
