AdubianewsThe Mortuaries and Funeral Facilities Agency (MoFFA) has given a one-week deadline to all mortuaries and funeral facilities operating without valid licenses to legalize their activities or risk immediate closure.
In a press statement dated October 22, 2025, the agency reminded operators that it is mandated under Part Two of the Health Institutions and Facilities Act, 2011 (Act 829), to license, control, and regulate all institutions engaged in the storage, transportation, and disposal of human remains.
MoFFA noted with concern that several mortuaries and funeral homes continue to operate illegally in breach of Section 55 of Act 829, which classifies such actions as an offense. The law stipulates that anyone running a mortuary or funeral facility without proper licensing may face a fine or have their premises shut down temporarily or permanently.
“All operators of facilities and practitioners are by this notice advised to take steps to regularise their operations or risk closure of their facilities,” the statement warned.
The agency further urged affected operators to visit its offices located at the former Ministry of Health Main Building, Room 22, or to contact MoFFA through its official phone numbers and website, www.moffa.gov.gh, for assistance in the registration process.
Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining high standards in the mortuary and funeral sector, MoFFA emphasized that its mission is to uphold public health and ensure that the deceased are treated with dignity, in line with its motto: “Protecting the Living; Dignifying the Dead.”
