AdubianewsGhanaian media personality and legal practitioner Mona Gucci has stirred conversation in the entertainment industry with strong remarks targeting TikTokers and social media influencers. Speaking during a segment on Onua TV, she made it clear that while these individuals may enjoy significant online visibility, they should not be classified as celebrities.
“TikTokers and influencers have their platforms, yes. But let’s be honest — being popular on social media does not automatically make you a celebrity,” she stated emphatically.
Mona emphasized that the title of “celebrity” should be reserved for individuals with longstanding, industry-recognized achievements in fields such as music, film, sports, or television. She encouraged influencers to focus on their niche roles rather than seeking validation as mainstream stars.
Her comments came in response to the increasing presence and influence of TikTokers and Instagram personalities in high-profile events and media coverage in Ghana. With the rise of digital platforms, many social media users have amassed substantial followings, often rivaling traditional entertainers in visibility and brand collaborations.
However, Mona Gucci believes there is a line between digital influence and industry-earned fame.
“Influencing is fine. You have your following, and you push brands or trends. But there are levels. You are not on the same stage as people who have worked for years to build careers,” she added.
