MP Nurideen Mumuni calls for investigation after deadly shooting at Nalerigu SHS

The Member of Parliament for Nalerigu/Gambaga, Nurideen Muhammed Mumuni, has urged Ghana’s security agencies to act swiftly and decisively following the fatal shooting of two students at the Nalerigu Senior High School.

Calling the incident “deeply disturbing,” the lawmaker insisted on a full-scale investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“This incident at Nalerigu Senior High School demands a thorough investigation, and the security agencies must rise to the occasion and ensure those responsible are brought to justice,” Mr Mumuni told Channel One TV on Sunday, 27 July.

According to reports, the two students were gunned down on the night of Saturday, 26 July, by unidentified assailants in what appears to be a targeted attack on the school grounds. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, though local sources suspect a possible connection to the longstanding Bawku chieftaincy conflict, which has been a source of intermittent violence in the area.

The tragedy has left the Nalerigu community shaken, with students and residents gripped by fear and uncertainty.

In a bid to restore calm, authorities have imposed a temporary curfew from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., effective immediately.

Confirming the incident, the Headmaster of Nalerigu SHS, Mr Mohammed Tibila, revealed that the attack occurred within the school compound and resulted in the deaths of the two students. Their bodies have since been handed over to their families for burial.

The shocking event has reignited urgent calls for heightened security in the region, particularly in areas vulnerable to conflict-related violence.
