AdubianewsConcerns are mounting among opposition groups and political commentators over what they describe as a return to PNDC-era tribunal tactics under the current John Mahama-led NDC government.
Critics allege that the administration has adopted a heavy-handed approach to dealing with dissenting voices, warning that the trend is reminiscent of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) era. According to them, individuals who so much as voice criticism of government policies risk intimidation or arrest.
Opponents argue that the pattern suggests a creeping culture of fear. “It appears the NDC government is practicing a modern version of the PNDC tribunal system. They’ll arrest anyone who dares to even cough against them,” one opposition activist lamented.
The allegations, however, have sparked debate. Supporters of the government insist that law enforcement actions are not politically motivated but rather intended to maintain public order. Still, political analysts caution that perceptions of authoritarian-style governance could erode public trust and weaken Ghana’s democratic credentials.
Observers are calling for transparency, accountability, and respect for civil liberties to ensure that political competition remains fair and that citizens retain confidence in democratic institutions.
