AdubianewsWith heavy rains battering parts of northern Ghana and triggering power outages, the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) is urging residents to prioritise safety and stay alert.
The recent storms have not only flooded homes and roads but also damaged vital electrical infrastructure, increasing the risk of electrocution and fire outbreaks.
NEDCo is warning the public to steer clear of fallen or sagging power lines, especially in flood-prone areas. The company has mobilised its staff to barricade affected sites and has asked community members to report damaged poles, wires, or transformers rather than try to fix them themselves.
“Leave repairs to the experts,” the company said in a cautionary statement signed by its Corporate Communications Manager, Maxwell K. Kotoka.
To prevent electrical accidents, NEDCo also advised customers to unplug appliances during power outages. This simple step, the company explained, can help protect devices from damage once the power is restored.
The storm, which hit on May 20, disrupted electricity services in regions such as Wa Central, Wa West, Sunyani, Techiman, and parts of the Northern and Upper East Regions. NEDCo’s teams are currently working to assess the damage and restore power to affected communities as swiftly as possible.
While apologizing for the inconvenience, NEDCo praised residents for their patience. The company reassured the public that efforts are underway to stabilise the system and called for continued cooperation as it works to resolve the ongoing issues.
