AdubianewsThe Executive Secretary of the National Peace Council, Dr. George Amoh, has expressed strong confidence in security arrangements for the ongoing Akwatia by-election. He said the police, in collaboration with the Electoral Commission (EC), have put in place extensive measures to guarantee peace before, during, and after the polls.
Speaking on Prime Morning, Dr. Amoh praised the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and his team for their readiness. “So far, the police are doing extremely well in terms of preparation. We realized that they are well prepared—probably more than ever—for this by-election. Their preparation was also confirmed by the Electoral Commission,” he stated.
He emphasized that security would be enhanced not only at polling stations but across the entire constituency. “The EC indicated that they are working closely with the police. It leaves no doubt that the security this time round will not be like what we witnessed in Ablekuma North. We are going to see improved security,” he assured.
The Peace Council has also deployed its regional team to Akwatia to engage stakeholders, including youth groups, religious leaders, and traditional authorities. According to Dr. Amoh, these engagements are crucial to preventing conflicts from escalating into violence during the election period.
In addition, the Council is facilitating dialogue between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to address mistrust. “We have scheduled a meeting with the leadership of the NDC and NPP this afternoon. This is geared towards curing mistrust and building consensus so that we can have a peaceful declaration of results,” Dr. Amoh said.
