The Police Hospital in Cantonments, Accra, is facing public backlash after a woman accused the facility of refusing to attend to her 97-year-old grandmother over claims of a bed shortage.

According to the woman, medical staff at the hospital declined to offer even basic assistance such as a wheelchair or vital checks, despite the elderly patient’s fragile condition. She stated that although her grandmother’s medical records were already with the hospital, staff still insisted they could not provide care.

A video of the incident, which has since gone viral, shows the visibly distressed woman confronting hospital staff over what she described as neglect. The footage has stirred outrage online, with many questioning the state of emergency care and compassion for elderly patients in public health institutions.

The incident has sparked renewed conversations around healthcare accessibility and treatment of vulnerable patients in Ghana, especially the elderly.
