Rev Fordjour Demands Okudzeto Ablakwa’s Resignation Over Presidential Jet Debate

The Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, has reignited debate over Ghana’s presidential aircraft, urging Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to step down and apologise to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

In a post shared on Monday, August 18, Rev Fordjour accused the Minister and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of reducing a matter of national security to “petty politics”. According to him, Ghanaians deserve a more responsible approach to discussions around the safety and reliability of the presidential jet.

“Mr Principle, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana is expecting your resignation. NDC must apologise to Ghanaians and Prez Akufo-Addo for doing petty politics with presidential travels,” Rev Fordjour stated.

He emphasised that concerns about the state of the current aircraft cannot be brushed aside, adding that the government must act decisively. Rev Fordjour called for a proposal to be laid before Parliament for the acquisition of a new jet to guarantee the President’s safety, security, and dignity during international assignments.

“Govt must be bold to submit a proposal for the acquisition of a new Presidential Jet for the President’s safety,” he reiterated.

The renewed calls come amid growing public discussion about the ageing presidential jet, with critics questioning its reliability. Rev Fordjour insisted that safeguarding the President should be treated as a matter of urgency, stressing that the national interest must always outweigh political point-scoring.
