A major anti-narcotics operation by the Tema Regional Police Command has led to the interception of 1,613 parcels of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs along the Akosombo–Tema road.
The operation, carried out in the early hours of Saturday, January 11, 2026, followed actionable intelligence received a day earlier suggesting that a consignment of suspected narcotics was being moved from the Volta Region toward Tema. Acting swiftly on the information, police personnel deployed a surveillance team around Agomeda Junction, a known transit point.
At approximately 12:45 a.m., officers intercepted two vehicles believed to be conveying the substances—a white Toyota Highlander (GS 2013-13) and a black Mitsubishi Pajero (GC 400-22). The drivers, identified as 33-year-old Isaac Odoi and 39-year-old Kwame Mani, were immediately arrested.
A thorough search of the vehicles uncovered 872 parcels concealed in the Mitsubishi Pajero and 741 parcels found in the Toyota Highlander, bringing the total number of seized parcels to 1,613.
Commenting on the operation, the Head of Public Affairs for the Tema Regional Police Command, ASP Dede Dzakpasu, praised the quick response of officers, noting that their actions prevented the suspected drugs from reaching the streets and endangering lives.
Following the interception, both suspects and the seized items were transferred to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Tema on January 12, 2026, to aid further investigations. Police say samples of the substances will be forwarded to the Forensic Crime Laboratory for detailed analysis, while additional searches are expected to be conducted at the suspects’ residences.
Authorities have also confirmed that court processes are underway as investigations continue. ASP Dzakpasu reiterated the police command’s resolve to intensify the fight against drug trafficking and appealed to the public to support law enforcement by providing credible information.
The successful interception underscores the police’s renewed commitment to disrupting organized crime and safeguarding public safety within the Tema Region and beyond.
