To this day, many assume that Michael Jackson bleached his skin white, which was a deliberate cosmetic decision because he was ashamed of his race. However, in the mid-1980s, Jackson was diagnosed with vitiligo, a skin condition that causes loss of pigmentation in patches on the body.
According to people close to him, it was a terribly humiliating personal challenge, in which he did everything possible to hide behind long-sleeved shirts, hats, gloves, sunglasses and masks.
When Jackson died in 2009, his autopsy definitively confirmed that he had vitiligo, as did his medical history.
