Thousands of young Ghanaians who participated in the 2021 Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment process are demanding urgent intervention following the unexplained cancellation of the entire exercise.
Despite successfully completing all required stages, including medicals, documentation, and vetting, more than 2,870 applicants say they remain in the dark about their future with the military. Their concerns have now been formally submitted to President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister for Defence, and other key government bodies.
For many of these hopeful recruits, the journey has come at a steep cost. Some reportedly gave up job opportunities, deferred education, and spent significant amounts on travel and accommodation, with some even alleging the payment of unofficial fees throughout the process.
Beyond the financial burden, the silence surrounding the cancellation has created deep emotional and psychological strain, especially for families who were counting on the success of their loved ones.
The petitioners are calling on the government to review the situation and offer a clear and fair resolution. Their demand is simple: don’t discard the efforts of committed citizens, provide answers, and a path forward.
