Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the majority leader has alleged that some officials at the Electoral Commission (EC) under the leadership of the previous chair, stole 4million dollars annually on the back of servicing the data centre.
However, the story is seemingly different under the current administration of the Electoral Commission. According to him, the Jean Mensah-led administration of the electoral commission has blocked all loopholes that could lead to thievery and corruption.
Granting an interview on TV3, the outspoken majority leader revealed that the decision to abolish the act of thievery at the Commission resulted in the allegations leveled against Madam Jean Mensah.
The legislator said;
The decision to stop the unending thievery resulted in baseless allegations and propagandist claims against her by the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The Member of Parliament for the Suame Constituency in the Ashanti region noted that since leaving office, the opposition side, that is, the NDC, had made several attempts on numerous occasions to smear Mrs. Jean Mensah with unsubstantiated allegations but their motive has always proved futile.
He said;
“They just don’t want to speak the truth,” “We had former Electoral Commission who were telling us they were servicing the data centre at the cost of four million dollars every year. Meaning people were stealing four million dollars every year from this country,”
This corrupt act, according to Hon. Osei-Kyei Mensah Bonsu was detected upon arrival of Mrs. Jean Mensah at the Commission as the new chairperson.
“We have a new Electoral Commission that says to Ghanaians that no, let us build a data recovering system so that when people succeed in hacking this new system we’re building, we would be better at backups.”
