A joint statement by the Ghana Education Service and the Ghana health Service have confirmed that Fifty-five (55) students and staff at the Accra Girls’ Senior High School have tested positive for COVID-19.
According to the statement, 55 people tested positive out of 314 total tests done.
“As at 13th July, 2020, a total of 314 persons (student and staff) from the School have been tested. Out of these, 55 have been confirmed positive for COVID-19 while 259 persons tested negative,” the statement said.
Last week parents besieged the schools to take their children home after six students tested positive for COVID-19.
There has been growing calls from a section of the public for schools to be closed down.
The National Democratic Congress’ COVID-19 technical team on Monday called on the government to immediately shut down schools to prevent more students from contracting the coronavirus disease.
Meanwhile the Chair of the Ghana Education Service (GES) Council Michael Nsowah last week said it is too early to decide whether or not to suspend schools, following the some senior high schools recording Covid-19 cases.
