The ceremony, to be attended by key stakeholders in Ghana football, sets the stage for another exciting season of grassroots competition aimed at developing future stars.

A Platform for Youth Development

First introduced in 2021, the KGL U-17 Colts Championship has become a central part of Ghana’s football development agenda. The annual tournament brings together young footballers from across the country, offering them exposure, competitive play, and the opportunity to be scouted for higher levels of the sport.

The main goals of the championship are to:

  • Discover and nurture young talent across all ten regions
  • Provide competitive opportunities for U-17 players
  • Strengthen regional unity through football
  • Build a pipeline from colts football to the national teams

Tournament Format

Each of the ten Regional Football Associations (RFAs) will select a team made up of standout U-17 players from district-level competitions. These regional teams will then compete for the national title in a knockout-format tournament scheduled to take place later this year.

The championship has grown in prestige over the years. Here are the previous winners:

  • 2021 – MAL FC (First edition held in Accra)

  • 2023 – Ashanti Region (first region to win)
  • 2024 – Western Region, who beat Eastern Region 2-1 in the final at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, Prampram

These tournaments have served as springboards for many young talents, some of whom have gone on to join professional academies and national youth teams.
