AdubianewsIn a major policy shift designed to enhance Ghana’s international appeal, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that all visa applications to Ghana will now be processed within five working days.
The new directive, announced on May 21, 2025, is a cornerstone of the government’s agenda to position Ghana as a top destination for business, tourism, and investment. This streamlined process replaces the previous timeframe, which ranged from four to six weeks, significantly reducing wait times for travelers.
While the new policy promises quicker processing, the Foreign Affairs Ministry clarified that a shorter timeframe does not guarantee visa approval. Each application will still be thoroughly assessed, with final decisions—whether approved or declined—issued within the stipulated five working days.
“We are throwing Ghana’s doors wide open, but we are not compromising our security protocols,” Minister Ablakwa stated. He emphasized that the decision reflects President Mahama’s broader vision to transform Ghana into a gateway for African opportunities.
To ensure smooth implementation, the Ministry is expanding its human and technical resources across Ghana’s diplomatic missions. This includes additional consular staff, upgraded visa systems, and increased training to meet the new processing standards.
Industry stakeholders have welcomed the policy, viewing it as a positive step toward attracting more tourists, investors, and business leaders. The Ghana Tourism Authority projects that the country could experience a 25–30% increase in international arrivals as a result of the change.
