Earlier this morning , a combined team of Ghana Police Service and National Security
operatives conducted a search at the residence of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known
as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The operation took place at his home in Paraku Estate, Kumasi, under the authority of a
search warrant.
The specific reasons for the search have not been disclosed publicly. However, the operation
is believed to be linked to ongoing investigations into alleged illegal mining activities
associated with Akonta Mining Limited, a company reportedly linked to Chairman Wontumi.
During the operation, tensions escalated as supporters of Chairman Wontumi gathered at
the scene, leading to a standoff. The presence of high-ranking NPP officials was also noted.
Eventually, the security personnel withdrew from the premises without incident.
Chairman Wontumi’s current whereabouts remain unknown, and no official statement has
been released by him or his representatives regarding the incident. The situation has
sparked discussions about the political implications and the ongoing efforts to combat illegal
mining in Ghana.
