Ghana’s Parliament reconvenes today, Tuesday, May 27, 2025, initiating the Second Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic. This follows a recess that began on March 29, 2025. The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, officially announced the resumption in accordance with Order 58 of the Standing Orders of Parliament, which mandates formal notification to Members of Parliament (MPs) about upcoming sittings.
Proceedings are scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m. at Parliament House in Accra. The agenda includes the continuation of business left unfinished from the previous meeting, such as the consideration of key bills, committee reports, and other matters already laid before the House.
In preparation for the resumption, the Minority in Parliament held a strategic leadership seminar in Accra. The seminar focused on enhancing internal coordination, strengthening legislative oversight, and preparing for constructive engagement in the second meeting of the legislative calendar. Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin emphasized that the forum aimed to position the Minority as a responsible, proactive opposition, prepared to hold the government accountable while supporting democratic progress.
