Ghanaian social media influencer Hayford Boateng, popularly known as GH Kobby, has been arrested following the alleged accidental shooting of his girlfriend, Philipa Yaa Baby, also known as Shuga.

The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, in Seker, Yeji, the capital of the Pru East District in the Bono East Region.

GH Kobby and two of his friends, Kojo Emmanuel and Michael Kabutey, were taken into police custody after reports emerged that the influencer had discharged a firearm, striking his girlfriend in the left arm. The group had reportedly traveled to Yeji after attending the funeral rites of the late Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.

According to eyewitness accounts, the group was relaxing and sharing a meal when GH Kobby went to his luxury vehicle to retrieve a firearm. While allegedly attempting to fire celebratory warning shots, he mistakenly shot Philipa. She was rushed to St. Martin’s Hospital but sadly passed away shortly after arrival due to her injuries.

An Assemblyman from the area reported that a bystander questioned Kobby’s actions before the shot was fired. The police later retrieved an assault rifle from the vehicle, and investigations are ongoing. Philipa’s body has since been deposited at the morgue.

Footage of GH Kobby and his friends in police custody has surfaced on social media, sparking widespread public reaction and calls for justice.
