GLOSARGG Applauds Ghana’s Neutral Stance in Israel-Iran Conflict

Ghana’s decision to stay neutral in the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel has earned praise from the Global Security for Africa Research and Good Governance (GLOSARGG). The group’s Executive Secretary, Francis Ahovi, described the move as smart and necessary in today’s tense global environment.

Mr. Ahovi, who specializes in security and humanitarian affairs, said Ghana’s choice protects its national interest. According to him, the country has continued a long tradition of non-alignment that started under Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. He said Ghana gains more by remaining neutral than by picking sides in international conflicts.

He explained that this neutral stance keeps Ghana safe from backlash such as cyber threats, sanctions, or economic pressure. It also helps the country maintain strong ties with both Western and Eastern powers, including the BRICS nations and key Arab countries. This flexibility, he said, gives Ghana an advantage in global diplomacy.

Mr. Ahovi also praised the government’s efforts to protect Ghanaians living in high-risk areas. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already taken steps to ensure the safety of citizens abroad. Mr. Ahovi called this a clear sign that Ghana takes its duty of care seriously and acts quickly in times of crisis.

He urged Ghanaian leaders to continue promoting peace and diplomacy in all global affairs. According to him, Ghana’s voice, guided by fairness and justice, is being heard far beyond Africa. In a divided world, he said, neutrality is a form of strength that earns respect on the global stage.

The Iran-Israel conflict worsened in April after Iran launched missiles and drones into Israeli territory. This followed an Israeli airstrike that hit Iran’s consulate in Syria. Since then, the violence has spread to other parts of the region. Many fear the fighting could lead to a wider war in the Middle East.

While Israel is backed by the US, UK, and NATO allies, Iran is supported by Russia, China, and groups like Hezbollah. The ongoing violence has caused heavy damage and loss of life, especially in areas like southern Lebanon and western Iraq.

In this tense global moment, GLOSARGG believes Ghana is showing leadership by staying focused on peace and protecting its citizens first.
