The Ghana Football Association (GFA) will launch the 2025/26 football season on July 1, 2025, and conclude it on June 30, 2026, following the Executive Council’s approval of the new competition calendar on June 9. The calendar aligns with the GFA’s statutes and accounting year.

The GFA created the calendar with the upcoming FIFA World Cup in mind. Scheduled for June 11 to July 19, 2026, the World Cup prompted the Association to ensure all elite local competitions finish before the tournament begins.

Key Events and Match Days

The Ghana Premier League will continue hosting matches on Sundays, with midweek dates reserved for any rescheduled fixtures. Both the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League and the Division One League will also use Sundays as their main match days.

In the MTN FA Cup, most matches will happen over weekends, although a few Round of 64 and Round of 63 fixtures may fall on weekdays. The Women’s FA Cup will take place exclusively on weekends.

This season, the GFA will bring back the eTrophy eFootball competition, giving gamers another chance to showcase their skills and compete for a spot on the national eFootball team.

The Beach Soccer and Futsal Premier Leagues will also return, continuing to diversify Ghana’s football landscape.

Regional and Youth Football

All Regional Football Association (RFA) leagues, including Division Two, Division Three, Women’s Division One, and Boys and Girls Colts Leagues (U13, U15, U17)—will begin by October 1, 2025, and wrap up by May 31, 2026.

The GFA will also expand the Girls’ Colts Football programme nationwide, building on successful pilots in Greater Accra and the Northern Region. The expanded U15 and U17 girls’ competitions will run in partnership with FIFA Women’s Football Development and the ten RFAs.

Off-Season Tournaments and Forward Planning

The GFA has made room for off-season tournaments, such as the Elite U15 Girls Championship, Elite U19 Second Division Championship, Boys U15 Elite Competition, and the KGL Foundation U17 Colts Championship.

By releasing key dates, including registration windows and the 31st GFA Annual Congress, the Association is ensuring clubs and stakeholders have enough time to plan for the season ahead. The GFA remains committed to delivering a competitive, well-organized football season across all levels of the game.
