AdubianewsRev. Dr. Stephen Wengam, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Ghana, has been named Chairman of the newly inaugurated Governing Council of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS). The appointment, made by President John Dramani Mahama, was officially announced during a ceremony held at the Ministry of the Interior in Accra on Wednesday, June 26, 2025.
The inauguration was presided over by the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, who highlighted the Council’s critical role in guiding the strategic operations of GIS. The Council is tasked with providing oversight and policy direction to the immigration body, which plays a key role in border control, migration regulation, and national security.
Rev. Dr. Wengam brings a wealth of experience in public service and institutional leadership. He is widely known for his current role as the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana—a position he has held since his election in 2022. His leadership track record includes serving as Chairman of the Ghana Prisons Service Council, where he spearheaded major reforms such as ‘Project Efiase’ and drove infrastructure development between 2009 and 2013.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Administration (Marketing) from the University of Ghana, a Master’s degree in Theology, and a Diploma in Christian Clinical Counselling from the International Theological Seminary, USA.
The appointment of Rev. Dr. Wengam is seen as a strategic move to reinforce leadership excellence and enhance governance within the Ghana Immigration Service.
