Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah has reiterated the government’s firm stance on ensuring a transparent and merit-based recruitment process into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF). According to the Minister, the enlistment of personnel will not be influenced by financial inducements or political affiliations.

The assurance was given during a meeting with the Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Interior, led by James Agalga, at the Defence Ministry in Accra. The engagement focused on strengthening national security and addressing challenges in the country’s defence sector.

Dr Boamah stated that his Ministry is determined to uphold the integrity and credibility of the armed forces through fair, open, and competitive recruitment. He took to his official Facebook page on Thursday, 3rd July, to publicly affirm the government’s position, stating that the GAF enlistment process is not for sale.

Beyond recruitment matters, the Minister also briefed the committee on ongoing defence initiatives and the need for modern platforms and upgraded equipment to respond effectively to new and emerging security threats, especially in high-risk zones.

The Committee praised the Ministry for its dedication to professionalism and pledged the full support of Parliament in bolstering the defence sector. Members highlighted the importance of unity and cooperation in safeguarding Ghana’s national interests.

Dr Boamah concluded the meeting with a call for collaborative efforts across government agencies and stakeholders, noting that a united front is essential to achieving a safer and more secure Ghana.
