Goosie Tanoh, Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy, has unveiled comprehensive details about Grow24, the agriculture-focused pillar of the government’s eight-part economic strategy.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Mr. Tanoh described Grow24 as a transformative policy aimed at modernising Ghana’s farming sector through technology, infrastructure, and skills development.

He explained that Grow24 was born out of extensive stakeholder consultations involving farmers, agribusinesses, and development experts. The policy is designed to tackle major bottlenecks such as limited fertiliser access, inadequate mechanisation, and poor logistics. Farmers, he said, have consistently demanded secure land titles, reliable irrigation, digital connectivity, and better roads to increase productivity and reduce post-harvest losses.

Grow24 is anchored on three strategic pillars:

  1. Modernising production using climate-smart and precision agriculture techniques.

  2. Strengthening supply chains with better transport, storage, and distribution infrastructure.

  3. Building human capital through mindset reorientation and practical skills training.

Mr. Tanoh stressed that without instilling discipline and a work ethic among youth and farm workers, Ghana cannot compete globally. To support this workforce, the plan includes incentives such as tax reliefs, affordable loans, equity financing, and access to shared mechanisation services to lower entry barriers, especially for young farmers.

He singled out the Volta Lake corridor as a prime zone for agricultural expansion, with 4 million hectares of arable land available for development. The strategy involves establishing agro-ecological parks, linking smallholder farmers to anchor farms that offer scale, training, and access to credit.

These hubs will be powered by infrastructure investments from the Ghana Infrastructure Fund, working with the Volta River Authority to provide energy and irrigation.

In addition to boosting food security and reducing Ghana’s reliance on imports, Tanoh believes Grow24 will generate employment across rural Ghana and turn agriculture into a profitable, tech-driven industry. “This is not just about farming,” he concluded. “It’s about transforming the economy from the ground up.”
