AdubianewsA fuel tanker overturned on a highway in Anyinam, Eastern Region, causing chaos as scores of residents rushed in with gallons and containers to scoop the spilled fuel.
Despite police presence at the scene, people, both young and old, scrambled for the leaking petrol, ignoring safety protocols and warnings from law enforcement officers.
The scene turned chaotic as individuals pushed and shoved one another, desperate to collect as much fuel as they could. Some climbed onto the tanker while others fought over spots on the ground where the fuel had pooled.
Police officers attempted to control the crowd, but their efforts were largely ignored as the crowd swelled by the minute.
This latest Anyinam fuel tanker incident raises serious safety concerns, especially in light of Ghana’s past fuel-related tragedies, including the deadly Atomic Junction explosion in 2017.
