AdubianewsIn a rare move away from mob justice, residents of Nsawam in the Eastern Region adopted an alternative punishment for a young man caught stealing.
Instead of subjecting him to beatings, which is common in many Ghanaian communities, the locals decided to declare a “weeding day” and assigned him to clear a large portion of land.
The physical punishment was designed to be grueling but non-violent, serving as both a deterrent and a public lesson. Residents supervised the activity throughout the day to ensure it was carried out.
The act reflects the community’s firm stance against crime, preferring hard labour over brutality as a form of justice.
Footage from the scene showed the young man clearing weeds under the sun with a cutlass, visibly exhausted, but spared physical harm.
