Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah assures no military deployment for Ablekuma North constituency rerun election, emphasizes peaceful voting process under police supervision.

In a firm assurance to the people of Ghana, Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah has ruled out any military presence for today’s Ablekuma North rerun elections. The minister’s declaration follows growing public anxiety over the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to conduct fresh polls in 19 polling stations within the constituency on Friday, July 11.

Taking to his official Facebook page, Dr Boamah made it unequivocally clear that security duties will rest solely with the Ghana Police Service. “To ensure a peaceful and democratic process, the Ghana Police Service will be fully in charge of security for today’s elections in Ablekuma North Constituency,” he stated.

He reinforced his point with a strong triple assertion that “there will be no military deployment,” clearly aimed at dispelling fears of voter intimidation or potential violence.

Drawing on Ghana’s painful electoral history, Dr Boamah referenced the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election and the tragic loss of eight lives during the 2020 general elections. He urged the nation to treat these past events as lessons. “Let’s learn from past experiences… and prioritise citizen safety and security,” he stressed, highlighting the importance of maintaining Ghana’s democratic principles while ensuring public safety.

The Minister expressed complete confidence in the capacity of the police to manage the situation. “The Ghana Police Service is trained to handle electoral security, and we trust them to do their job,” he affirmed.

In concluding his message, Dr Boamah called for peace, urging voters to turn out and exercise their democratic rights. “Keep the peace and make our voices heard as John Dramani Mahama resets Ghana and creates more opportunities for Ghanaians,” he encouraged.

His remarks reflect the government’s focus on peaceful democratic practices while directly addressing citizens’ concerns regarding the conduct of the Ablekuma North rerun.
