Ministry of Energy spokesperson Richmond Rockson addresses the media, clarifying that there will be no nationwide dumsor on July 13, only possible minimal power interruptions.

The Ministry of Energy has denied widespread claims that Ghana will experience nationwide dumsor on Sunday, July 13, following misinterpretations of recent remarks by the Energy Minister.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Friday, July 11, the Ministry’s spokesperson, Richmond Rockson, clarified that the Minister’s comments had been taken out of context. He explained that while upcoming maintenance work by Independent Power Producer (IPP) ENI will temporarily affect gas supply, it does not equate to a countrywide power outage.

“What he (the Energy Minister) said was that ENI is expected to increase gas supply, and they are going to shut down their work. Once that is done, it is going to have an impact on the supply of gas for power generation, and measures have been put in place to ensure that we do not have any impact,” Rockson clarified.

He stressed that if any disruptions occur, they would be minimal and short-lived. “If you experience that, know that it is for a good purpose, so there is no point at a time when the minister mentions that there will be a nationwide dumsor,” he emphasized.

Rockson further noted that in the event of any power interruptions, the public should expect a maximum downtime of six hours. “The minister put it out that the maximum time we will be expecting is six hours,” he said.

The Ministry assured that contingency plans are in place to minimize any adverse effects on the power supply during ENI’s scheduled maintenance. The clarification comes amidst growing public anxiety and online speculation, which the Ministry says has been fueled by misrepresentation of facts.

“Let’s not mislead the public. This is a technical process aimed at improving the system. Ghanaians should be assured that we are not returning to a nationwide power crisis,” Rockson concluded.

This statement seeks to quell concerns and reaffirm the government’s commitment to maintaining a stable energy supply across the country despite necessary technical operations.
