Aggressive police officer slaps GHOne TV journalist Banahene Agyekum at Odorkor polling station during Ablekuma North rerun

A police inspector has come under fire after allegedly slapping GHOne TV journalist Banahene Agyekum during coverage of the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun at Odorkor.

The journalist, who was reporting from the Church of Pentecost polling station, recounted the incident during an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, revealing that he was carrying out his usual duties when the officer approached and ordered him to leave the premises.

According to Agyekum, he was taken aback by the officer’s directive, especially since several other journalists were present at the location. “I even showed him my ID card to prove that I am a journalist, justifying why I can’t leave when he slapped me,” he narrated.

A video released by Original TV, which has since gone viral, captures the moment the visibly aggressive police officer engaged Agyekum. Efforts by fellow officers to calm the situation appeared futile as the inspector’s behavior remained hostile.

The journalist, clearly shaken by the encounter, described the officer’s demeanor as unnecessarily combative. He also revealed that the same inspector had earlier confronted Accra Mayor Michael Kpakpo in a similar fashion but backed down after onlookers recognized the official.

Adom News’ Shine Acquah, who was also present at the scene, confirmed that Agyekum sustained a severe facial injury as a result of the altercation.

As of the time of this report, Banahene Agyekum has not yet filed an official complaint regarding the incident.
