AdubianewsThe Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has pledged that government will restore the vandalized Bawku Naba statue, describing its destruction over the weekend as both “regrettable and unacceptable.”
Dr Boamah made the assurance on Thursday, July 17, through a Facebook post following a durbar held at Burma Camp. “I condemned the destruction of the cherished statue in Bawku over the weekend,” he stated. “I assured that the government shall rebuild the statue and expects appropriate sanctions to be meted out to the perpetrators.”
The statue, which holds significant traditional and symbolic importance to the Bawku community, was reportedly damaged amid recent tensions in the area. The Defence Minister emphasized that swift action was being taken to not only rebuild the monument but also to ensure those responsible face justice.
He also addressed the recent shooting of two soldiers in Bawku, calling it a disturbing development that demands urgent accountability. “The Ghana Armed Forces remain committed to protecting lives and maintaining order in every part of the country,” Dr Boamah affirmed.
He urged cooperation among the military, traditional leaders, and local residents to restore peace and mutual respect. “Let us unite to uphold peace, protect tradition, and strengthen the bonds that hold our nation together,” he added.
