President Mahama meeting Mamprugu delegation at Jubilee House

President John Dramani Mahama has announced a bold development plan for the Northeast Region, aimed at transforming the area’s infrastructure, education, health, and agriculture. He made the announcement on Thursday, July 17, 2025, during a courtesy visit by a high-powered delegation from the Overlord of the Mamprugu Kingdom at the Jubilee House. The meeting strengthened the collaboration between traditional leadership and the presidency in advancing regional growth.

At the center of the President’s agenda is the establishment of a public university in the Northeast Region, a move he described as crucial for expanding access to tertiary education and equipping young people with the skills needed for national development. He emphasized the importance of creating opportunities that empower the youth and curb rising unemployment in the region.

President Mahama also revealed plans for massive road infrastructure projects, which he said would open up the region for trade and economic activities. He stressed that better roads are vital for connecting communities, improving access to essential services, and encouraging private sector investment in the area.

Additional proposals outlined by the President include enhanced healthcare facilities and targeted agricultural investments. These, he explained, would improve quality of life and boost food production, while generating employment across rural communities. Mahama assured the Mamprugu delegation of his administration’s commitment to inclusive development, stating that the Northeast Region would be given the resources and attention it rightfully deserves.
