Firefighters respond to blaze at Accra Tourist Information Centre

A large fire broke out at the Accra Tourist Information Centre in the early hours of Monday, prompting a rapid and coordinated response by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

The GNFS confirmed that the incident was reported at exactly 01:02 AM, with the first fire engine arriving on-site within two minutes, at 01:04 AM, from the GNFS National Headquarters.

Reinforcements soon followed, with crews dispatched from Flagstaff House, Circle, Accra City, and the Ministries, as well as a Rapid Intervention Vehicle (RIV) from headquarters. Firefighters battled the intense blaze for more than two hours, finally bringing the fire under control at 03:32 AM.

Even after extinguishing the main flames, firefighting teams remained at the scene to conduct thorough mop-up operations, dousing lingering hotspots to prevent the blaze from reigniting or spreading to nearby buildings.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and the GNFS has confirmed that an official investigation is set to begin to determine what triggered the incident.
