The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly denied allegations that it hired Brandcom, a Ukrainian public relations firm, to run an online smear campaign in the lead-up to Ghana’s 2024 general elections.
In a statement released on Saturday, August 3, 2025, the party described the claims published by AllAfrica.com as “completely false, baseless, and defamatory.”
$280,000 Claim Dismissed
The report alleged that Brandcom is demanding $280,000 from the NPP for services rendered in managing fake social media accounts and distributing smear content targeting opponents. However, the NPP has categorically denied any contractual relationship with Brandcom.
“The NPP has no contractual relationship, past or present, with any entity known as Brandcom, based in Ukraine or elsewhere,” the party said in a statement signed by its National Communications Directorate.
NPP Warns of Legal Action
The party also warned that it may pursue legal action against Brandcom and any media outlets that republish the “unfounded and damaging” report. It called for a full retraction, labeling the publication a calculated attempt to “tarnish the image of the party and sow public distrust.”
“We reject any insinuation that undermines our record of issue-based campaigning,” the statement added.
Upholding Democratic Integrity
The NPP emphasized that it has never authorised any foreign firm to engage in digital propaganda or unethical tactics, asserting that all its electoral campaigns have been conducted with transparency, integrity, and respect for Ghana’s democratic norms.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to building a prosperous Ghana through bold and ethical leadership, urging media platforms and the public to remain vigilant against misinformation from what it described as “faceless entities.”
Background
The allegations surface amid growing scrutiny over foreign interference in African elections, especially through digital manipulation. The accusation against the NPP, if true, would have marked a rare documented case of political engagement with Eastern European disinformation firms.
However, the party insists the claims are a deliberate fabrication, warning the public not to fall prey to politically motivated disinformation campaigns.
