FrimpongMember for Parliament for North Tongu in the Volta Region, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has described the virtual concert organized by the government to launch the GH COVID-19 App as pointless and an insult to the plight of Ghanaians in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the Member of Parliament, under the former President Mahama’s administration, such fanfare and merrymaking is an affront to Ghana’s traditions and customs in the wake of anxiety and despair caused by the increase in COVID-19 cases.
In a social media post, the Member of Parliament said the app could have been launched through the numerous press briefings organized by the government to update Ghanaians on the pandemic.
“it is an affront to our traditions, customs and sensibilities to be organizing concerts particularly in this period when there is a surge in anxiety due to the fact that our COVID 19 case count has spiked with more deaths being recorded and many battling for their lives.”
“Government could have announced the existence of a COVID 19 tracker app when all is done and the app is readily available at one of its numerous Ministry of Information press briefings or presidential broadcasts which attracts an even bigger audience,” he opined.
