Kofi Akpaloo, the 2024 Presidential Candidate of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), has stirred conversation following his remarks about the recent tragic military helicopter crash, suggesting that the incident was a divine warning to the ruling NDC government.
Speaking in a recent interview, Akpaloo pointed out the location of the crash, a cocoa farm in Adansi Akrofuom, as a symbolic sign of God’s displeasure with the government’s handling of cocoa farmers’ welfare.
“God is not asleep. You saw where the helicopter crash occurred? A cocoa farm. God used the crash as a reminder, don’t lie to cocoa farmers,” Akpaloo said.
He accused the NDC of deceiving cocoa farmers, stating that the party had promised significant financial support to farmers during their campaign but delivered far less than pledged after assuming office.
Akpaloo drew parallels with a previous incident involving the Minister of Health, who suffered an accident and was hospitalized. According to him, that event, too, was a divine reminder to the minister to take Ghana’s health sector seriously.
He insisted that both accidents, one involving the health minister and the other involving high-ranking government officials in the helicopter, were not coincidental, but rather spiritual warnings tied to unfulfilled political promises.
“This crash is a result of their deception. They promised our cocoa farmers the world and gave them peanuts. God allowed this to happen on a cocoa farm as a message,” he added.
While investigations into the crash are ongoing, Akpaloo’s remarks have sparked mixed reactions, with some calling them spiritually insightful and others criticizing them as insensitive amid a national tragedy.
The government has not responded to Akpaloo’s comments as of yet. Meanwhile, national mourning continues as authorities probe the true cause of the incident that claimed eight lives, including two cabinet ministers.
