Poll Projects NDC’s Bernard Bediako to Win Akwatia By-Election

A new poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics has tipped the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Bernard Bediako, to emerge victorious in the upcoming Akwatia by-election on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

The survey, carried out between August 27 and 28 with a sample size of 2,050 registered voters, places Bediako ahead of his closest contender, Solomon K. Asumadu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to the poll, Bediako secured 53% of support, while Asumadu followed with 47%, making the NDC candidate the frontrunner as election day approaches.

The by-election was triggered by the passing of the late NPP MP, Ernest Kumi, on July 7, leaving the Akwatia parliamentary seat vacant. The contest has drawn intense national interest, given Akwatia’s history as a swing constituency that has alternated between the NDC and NPP for the past two decades.

Global InfoAnalytics noted that voter sentiment reflects not only traditional party loyalty but also frustrations over unemployment, economic challenges, and access to basic social amenities. These concerns have dominated campaign narratives and are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the final outcome.

However, the poll cautioned that undecided voters remain a decisive factor. Their choices could either solidify Bediako’s lead or give Asumadu an opportunity to close the gap.

The Electoral Commission and security agencies have pledged heightened monitoring and strong deployments in the constituency to ensure a peaceful and credible election, especially in light of recent incidents of electoral violence in the country.
